Energy assessments – Green Campus interns can evaluate the energy efficiency of offices and residences. We’ll measure your energy use, exchange compact fluorescent lights for your incandescent bulbs and recommend other ways to cut your energy use. Results are kept anonymous. Contact us for more info or to schedule an office or personal energy assessment.

Green Campus Programming for Resident Advisors, House Advisors and Campus Departments:

Eco-Jeopardy A 45-minute game with categories on recycling, energy and other sustainability topics for two or three teams. Green Campus will ask the questions and keep score; you bring your residents and any prizes or food.

Energy-saving competitions – The college that saves the most energy compared to the previous year wins. Prizes include the venerated Green Shoe perpetual trophy and another prize of your choice. Currently held each quarter among the residents of Revelle, Muir and Sixth colleges, using special live meters there. More meters are expected to be installed so the other three colleges can participate. See last year's results.

Solar oven cooking – Green Campus interns can demonstrate how to use “sun ovens” to make cookies, quesadillas and more. Revelle and Warren colleges have each won a sun oven in previous Green Campus competitions, and they are available for students to check out.

Movie screenings – We can present environmentally themed movies, including “Green Eye for the Common Gal” and “The Phantom Hunter,” created by the Green Campus Club at Humboldt State University, then lead a discussion about the topics covered.

CFL exchanges – Compared to incandescent or halogen bulbs, CFLs are the most energy-efficient light bulbs. They use 75% less energy while providing the same amount of light, producing less heat, and lasting 10 times longer. E-mail us with your on-campus delivery location and we’ll send you one free CFL!
